Music Box How To Care
Can I take care of my music box?
Some points to note.
Music box maintenance and precautions
Each music box for sale in our store is individually manufactured by a music box specialist. They are also delicate instruments.
Take precautions and enjoy your music box for a long time!
Do not drop it

Dropping a precision instrument makes it more likely to damage itself due to impact. Carefully handling it.
Never use glue even if the box is damaged by dropping, etc.
Not in direct sunlight

The music box may be damaged by the heat of direct sunlight, which can cause the metal parts to expand. Music boxes use a lot of small, thin metal, which is easily affected.
Keep the music box out of direct sunlight as much as possible and in a well-ventilated place. ( We recommend places where people come and go and air circulates easily, such as living rooms and entrance hallways.
Play it more than once a day

A music box is a precision machine. The individual vibration valves on the diaphragm, the cylinder pins, the gears of various sizes, the air stopper and the mainspring are all mechanical devices that move in tandem, so they need to be moved regularly.
But once a day may be too few for a music box lover 🙂
No mechanical modifications

The cylinder and comb are positioned by the music box craftsman for the best sound. Only craftsmen know how to tighten the screws to produce a beautiful sound.
If you remodel once, the sound will not recover to the original sound, therefore, do not remode.
In some cases, the wooden box is broken when trying to remove the glass. In this case, the entire box is distorted and the sound changes, and it cannot be restored.
The spring of the music box has a large power reserve, so it may run out of control (break all the pins) or even explode.
Never “open the inside” or “touch the mechanism.”
(Note) Touching the rotating feather governor will result in total loss in an instant.
Do not over-wind the mainspring

Do not over-wind the mainspring, as this puts a strain on the device.
Touch after washing your hands

Always wash your hands and avoid getting oil on them when touching the music box, as grease is a source of rust. Using gloves is also a good idea.
Keep out high heat and moisture

Excessive drying affects the box, which is a resonant body. Do not place next to a fireplace or stove, as the wood may crack and the echoing sound may worsen.

Also, if kept in a hot and moist place, the metal will rust.
As with violins, cellos and other instruments, humidity should be kept between 40% and 60%.
If the room is humid, try to use dehumidifiers or dehumidifiers.
